Choosing HD, 1080p or 4K Streaming

Look beyond the resolution label to the edition, device and connection.

Compare the edition, not the poster

A high-resolution image on a movie page is artwork. The actual video quality comes from the viewing offer you select. Check whether that offer supplies HD, 1080p or 4K on your device and plan. The same film may have different options on two services.

When higher quality helps

Fine detail can be easier to appreciate on a larger screen at a suitable viewing distance. On a phone, the difference may be less obvious. Compression and source quality matter too, so resolution alone is not a complete measure of the picture.

Some services limit browser playback differently from their native apps. Check the provider's support information before assuming that a 4K display guarantees 4K playback from every source.

When a stable picture matters more

If playback keeps pausing, reduce other network activity and try a lower quality. An adaptive player may adjust automatically as conditions change. Give it time to settle before repeatedly restarting. For a dark or oddly coloured image, check display settings and HDR compatibility separately from connection speed.

Use the device guide for television choices or troubleshooting for a specific playback symptom.
